Craig Pomranz - More than just a pretty voice...
Craig Pomranz combines the charm of the boy-next-door with a strong legit voice that is destined to lead him to Broadway musical comedy. It's a securely placed, well-trained and pleasing sound that reaches for the stratosphere of the tenor register without ever straining.
But he's more than just another pretty voice. His handsome boyish good looks and personal attractiveness add much to his stage presence.
When he sticks to straight-forward legit Broadway musical comedy fare, Pomranz is stunning. He gives his all to songs from Brigadoon, Carnival, Sweeney Todd, She Loves Me and their ilk. It's here that his strong points manage to shine through most clearly and effectively.
A simple and impeccable rendering of "It a New World I See," a forgotten gem from Harold Arlen's magnificent score for the Judy Garland 'A Star Is Born', makes a welcome respite from the hackneyed fare too many cabaret singers indulge in.
Also effective, in a lighter note is a novelty tune about nudity in the theater, "Their Things Were Out," which Pomranz is ingenuous enough to carry off.
